The Finance Ministry is expected to come up with an exemption order on the Real Property Gains Tax (RPGT) this week to clear the confusion surrounding the RPGT proposal.Under the 2010 Budget, the government proposed a fixed tax rate of 5 per cent imposed on gains from the disposal of real property effective Jan 1 next year. However, based on the Finance Bill, disposal within two years of acquisition will be taxed 30 per cent, 20 per cent in the third year and 15 per cent in the fourth year while disposal within five years and beyond will still be subjected to 5 per cent.‘As far as the Act is concerned, the rate is still there, which is 5 per cent to 30 per cent.

780 contracts from wholly owned, joint venture projects in Melbourne, Sydney AUSTRALAND Property Group said yesterday that its residential division bagged about 780 contracts worth over A$318 million (S$409 million) in wholly owned and joint-venture projects in Melbourne and Sydney in the third quarter of this year.As a result, the division exchanged a total of about 1,800 contracts (for land, housing and apartments) with sales revenue of about A$700 million in the first nine months of this year.As

Lender posts Q2 loss of US$1.6b; chalks up consolidated debt of US$21bCapmark Financial Group Inc, the lender owned by companies including Goldman Sachs Group Inc and KKR & Co, filed for bankruptcy protection after posting a second-quarter loss of about US$1.6 billion.The company listed consolidated debt of US$21 billion and consolidated assets of US$20.1 billion as of June 30, according to Chapter 11 documents filed on Sunday in US Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware.

UK house prices are likely to reverse recent gains as the economy struggles to recover from recession, former Bank of England policy maker David Blanchflower said.‘The reality is that the real economy is on its back,’ Prof Blanchflower said in an interview with Bloomberg Television in London yesterday. ‘If house prices continue to fall, as I believe they will, we’re going to see around three million people in negative equity’, where mortgage debts exceed the value of the property.UK gross domestic product unexpectedly dropped in the third quarter, extending the recession to the longest since records began in 1955.

Senator’s Measures Enhance Troop Readiness, Energy Efficiency and Economic Development Initiatives WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Mark Pryor today said legislation headed to the President includes measures he proposed to enhance troop readiness and equipment, benefit defense-impacted communities, and expedite the military’s use of renewable fuels in its fleet. Pryor said the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 authorizes $680.2 billion in discretionary budget authority for defense programs next year and makes several improvements to support critical national security priorities.

Some of the highlights of the Budget 2010 presented by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak are as follows; Employees EPF contributions will be raised again to 11 per cent on a voluntary basis with immediate effect. However, from Jan 1, 2011 employees’ EPF contribution will revert to 11 per cent. The Government proposes existing personal tax relief of RM6,000 for EPF contributions and life insurance premiums be raised to RM7,000. Government allocates RM2.3 billion to build and upgrade infrastructures in rural areas.

Victor MacFarlane will remain under contract with the fund through year’s endSan Francisco businessman Victor MacFarlane is ending his longtime role as a property adviser to the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (Calpers), a spokeswoman for his firm said on Saturday.The development came after property investments by the nation’s largest pension fund lost much of their value during the global economic downturn, costing the fund hundreds of millions of dollars.MacFarlane Partners spokeswoman Julie Chase said that Mr MacFarlane will remain under contract with the giant pension fund through year’s end.

Five weeks after it’s initial limited release, Paranormal Activity has claimed the top of the box office this weekend with $22 million . The very low budgeted film, that has gone from playing in select college towns to 1,945 screens has grossed $62.4 million. Debuting in the second spot was Saw VI with $14.8 million . I can’t say much for this franchise as I think it’s premise is about as disgusting and unnecessary as they come, though with six film’s in the franchise I’m aware that I am in the minority.
