The Parisian site at Angullia Park sold for S$283m By Wong Siew Ying SINGAPORE: The freehold site at Angullia Park that The Parisian sits on has been sold for S$283 million. The buyer is China Sonangol Land, part of the China Sonangol international holding company headquartered in Hong Kong. According to real estate consultancy CB Richard Ellis, which brokered the deal, this is the biggest private residential land sale in two years.

Overseas Union Enterprise (OUE), which bought the freehold site for $228.1 million in December 2006, has resold the parcel for $283 million, it said in a statement yesterday.

I’ve not yet had time to read the Search Surveillance Bill, but have added it to my weekend reading, after viewing this story : Sweeping powers to spy, bug conversations and hack into private computers could be given to a web of state agencies as diverse as Inland Revenue and the Meat Board. The Human Rights Commission yesterday warned Parliament of the “chilling” implications of a proposed law that would see the intrusive powers usually only available to the police extended to all agencies with enforcement responsibilities.

The key benchmark indices extended losses for the third straight day on weak global markets and rise in headline inflation above the 1% mark. Intraday volatility was high. The BSE 30-share Sensex lost 219.43 points or 1.29%, off close to 245 points from the day’s high and up close to 70 points from the day’s low.The Sensex closed below the psychological 17,000 mark after regaining that level in mid-morning trade for a short while. KARACHI: Pakistan’s current account deficit posted a decline of 89 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, mainly due to higher home remittances and sharp decline in trade deficit. “Massive decrease in the current account deficit has occurred due to rising home remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis, decline in imports and trade deficit, besides aggressive performance of services sector,” analysts said.

Geely Holding Group Co’s 10-month effort to buy Volvo from Ford Motor Co may fall apart within days as the companies struggle to agree on intellectual property rights, two people familiar with the talks said. Geely and Ford officials are meeting in London this week to try to resolve the US automaker’s concerns about sharing technology and future product plans, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the negotiations are private.

ISLAMABAD: The membership drive launched by the Federal Government Housing Foundation (FGEHF) of the Ministry of Housing to provide housing units under government’s launched schemes continues successfully. Under the scheme,every registered employee would get an opportunity to have a house in the Federal Capital. Ministry of Housing and Works Secretary Ahmed Bux Lehri said under the scheme the registered employees would be able to get houses, apartments or flats of their own choices on ‘first come, first served basis’.

Whilst property values in the USA, UK and many western European countries have fallen significantly during the global financial crisis – Australian property values have held up relatively well. In fact median house prices in some Australian markets have actually increased during 2009. It is interesting to note that Australian property prices experienced some ‘correction’ whilst prices in other western countries continued to climb precipitously in the lead-up to the Global Financial Crisis.

ISLAMABAD: The Central Directorate of National Savings attracted Rs60 billion savings in July-September quarter, a significant amount that kept the country’s fiscal deficit from widening further. The contribution made by CDNS is quite significant in the wake of tough economic conditions as the International Monetary Fund restricted the government from borrowing from the central bank. However, despite CDNS contribution, the country could not achieve the fiscal deficit target, slightly missing it by 0.2 per cent of gross domestic product to 1.5 per cent.

Wouldn’t it be nice if 333 State Street, that miserable Downtown eyesore next to Housatonic Community College, could actually be renovated into a commercial/residential tax roll project? The firm that paid the city $500,000 to overhaul the building, First National Development, has taken on new partner Carlson Construction in an effort to expedite the $12 million project. Lack of payment for remediation and engineering work has forced a couple of mechanic’s liens on the property.
